It’s been only 15 days into 2008 and I feel as though I have enough highlights that will rival a full year of an average guy my age.
For one, I celebrated the New Year in a most memorable style crossing a border from one country to another sharing beers on a table with 5 different nationalities. This was after an awe inspiring experience in Siem Reap seeing the Angkor Wat and the cluster of other magnificent surrounding temples.
Two hours before the strike of midnight I was in the middle of the streets of Saigon partying with total strangers who share a few important things in common with me: the zeal to discover the world and its many cultures, the will to party and have fun, the love of beer and the openness to friendships.
I guess you can say that my social life kicked off pretty well. But my “romantic” life has been very fulfilling as well. Let’s just say that my Friday and Saturday nights are not spent alone and that variety is my friend these past few weeks. Not too shabby, considering that it’s only been a month since I became single again.
Work has been pretty rewarding as well. This morning I just had a successful presentation to our client. And this afternoon I just got promoted. Everything seems to be going right. Now in the old days, this torrent of good things would make me nervous. But through the years I have learned to give myself some credit for the good things that I do in my personal and professional life.
Next week will be my first overseas business trip for 2008. I will be in Jakarta for a few days for some, well, business related meetings. I guess you could say that my year’s having a kick-ass start. But the best part is that I really believe it can only get better from here. While many fold in fear when good things happen, I have learned the secret to keeping your sanity while at the same time you keep your feet on the ground.
I shall be taking deep breaths and in between I shall say, God is good.
